How living through a pandemic will change the form and function of our homes

Social distancing, shelter-in-place, and the colossal work-from-home experiment all borne out of this pandemic mean that we are now spending more time in our homes than ever before. Home isn’t just where we sleep; it’s where we work, socialize, teach, exercise, film, create, play, and just about every other verb you can think of. Undoubtedly, after all this time at home, people are starting to notice what makes their spaces less-than-optimal. Some people are tackling those mini-projects on their own; hardware stores have seen an uptick in business in the wake of the pandemic.

As people rethink the environment they’re forced to occupy round the clock, densely populated city centers are starting to lose their luster.

So what comes next? Living through this pandemic will drastically alter how people think about their homes, which in turn will change and reorder the list of real estate must-haves.
